Welcome
Back Creek Christian Academy is a Transitional Kindergarten through 8th Grade School serving the University City area of Charlotte, North Carolina.
BCCA is a Christian and Classical School teaching children to observe the world that God created, think carefully about that world, and read widely in the literature and ideas that have shaped culture.
Education is a critical part of a child’s growth, and at Back Creek Christian Academy, we believe in educating children taking the best of literature, art and ideas, examined through the lens of Biblical truth with the goal of seeing God at the center of daily life.
A Unique Approach
Our unique approach to education integrates mental, physical, and spiritual growth to develop well-rounded children who understand the importance of Biblical principles and how they impact every part of our lives.
Back Creek Christian Academy begins with Transitional Kindergarten, a program to initiate children in the academic world beginning with summer play dates, “back to school” visits, and smaller class sizes. With earlier exposure to literature, art, music, and physical education, and activities, field trips, and community programs that bring future students into a school setting earlier, young children can build an early foundation that the future curriculum at BCCA will grow.
Beginning in third grade, the study of Latin begins to build a solid foundation for students to excel in English grammar and vocabulary, and develops critical thinking skills and attention to detail. Some have questioned whether teaching an ancient language like Latin is beneficial in today’s world, but we believe it has many practical applications beyond simply knowing another language. As the foundation for romance languages such as French or Spanish, a Latin background makes learning these languages easier. In addition, with much of our language derived from Latin, and many Latin terms used in science, law, and medicine, this early exposure helps prepare students for success.
A Challenging Environment
Every child is created in the image of God, and each has the opportunity to achieve greatness. We challenge students with our curriculum, teaching them to use critical thinking skills to question the world in which they live, and value the Christian world view to apply their knowledge in a way that spreads the love of Christ and the teachings of the Bible through their actions. During the school year, students spend time once a week in the Chapel, singing, worshipping, and hearing from speakers.
Year-Round Learning
In the summer, students can continue their education and spiritual development at Camp Back Creek, a 10-week camp that incorporates games, activities, playtime, and Bible study to help students draw closer to God.
Why Back Creek?
We believe God is an integral part of education, and that lessons should emphasize Christ’s role in guiding our hearts and minds. We also believe education should emphasize service to God in our community, and support parents in educating children. When the beliefs of your children’s school are aligned with your own convictions, you can be at peace knowing that your children are developing the academic and spiritual knowledge they will need to succeed in the world.
